Comp sec announced the results of today’s golf, teams of 3 with 2 to count off 90% of MOGHS handicap. Only 15 holes played today as the competition sec made the decision to curtail the enjoyment of playing in the wet conditions and reduced the punishment mid-round. This was roundly accepted by all.

AOB: Crocs organised a bottle of Whiskey 🥃 ( note spelling, Irish) for John Scurfield ,who left MGC last Friday, on behalf of the MOHGS. John passed on his thanks. In discussions with a number of MOHGS the Emperor compensated Crocs from the MOHGS funds. There was a unanimous vote in favour of this gesture. Thank you Chris.

The Geezer brought up the thorny problem of the 2s pot suggesting:
1. Only players who contributed to the pot each week should be able to win.
The group, although broadly in favour of this, felt that it would require too much admin from someone, especially if there were rollovers.
The Laird counter proposed :
2. No rollover of pot. If not won then money goes to Emperors tin.
Proposal 2 was accepted almost unanimously.

Best wishes were proposed for Brains, Kwouk and Biggles.

The Laird left a detailed interpretation of the rules regarding hitting balls on the green. This is lodged with the Scribe who can produce it when required, however the most important ruling is that there is no penalty when MOGHS are at play!!

Bumpers was somewhat put out when he realised that there were seventeen players, he offered to drop out and play with others. He was informed that he would have to pay the levy if he did not play!

The Emperor assured Bumpers that the statement was made in jest but Bumpers was unsure. Since the Competition Secretary was absent it was agreed to revisit the issue next Monday, however the Chair sagely stated that if you don’t play, you don’t pay!

With that he announced the meeting was concluded at 12.55.

The Rabbi gave an update on Biggles. The family have moved into a larger house with ramps to enable him to get around much better. He is doing fine and following his exercise regime. MOHGS send him our best wishes as always.

The Chairman pointed out that there had been a medical emergency on the course last Wednesday and wisely suggested that there should be at least one mobile phone in each MOHGS playing group.

No Matters ArisingAOB Thanks passed to Scuttler for organising an away day at Westerhope Golf Club last Wednesday. Executive material in the making. The Laird announced that two tees are booked for the RNLI Day at Newbiggin next Friday. Suggest meeting at 9.30am at the latest for 9.50 and 10 am tee times. Cost of day is £25 to include golf and soup and sarnies! The meeting was rudely interrupted by a lady member offering something to Bumpers.

The Laird continued with his arrangements for the game at Hobson on 3 July. There are 11 MOHGS down to play, another player would be more than useful so if anyone can turn out please let the Laird know asap.

He will cancel the tees that day at Morpeth.

Coffee and bacon roll are on offer before the golf at Hobson and first tee time is 10am. So if you want coffee and bacon roll get there in plenty time.

Crocs floated the idea of a Memorial Trophy for Bob Hallett, should be as close as possible to 1 April (Bob’s birthday).

He also suggested a MOHGS v Dirty Dozen game for the trophy found by Simon Hallett.

There will also be a belated notice from Morpeth Golf Club to advise of Bob’s death, as is the norm for past and present members. Brains announced that next Monday is MOHGS Championship. The Rabbi gave an update on Biggles. The family are moving into a larger house which will give Biggles better access. He sends his best wishes to MOHGS and hopes to get to the club next Monday. MOHGS send their thoughts to Biggles and family.

The Cardinal reminded the meeting that the issue of gimmies should be revisited. After much debate presided over effortlessly by Two Beers, it was decided to reinstate gimmies, but only for puts of horizontal fist length and shorter.

No doubt we will consider the issue again!!!

There being no further debate the meeting closed at 1pm!

2 Beers assumed the mantle of Chairman

Emperor muti tasking today (1) Comp Sec; (2) Scribe & (3) day job as Financial Sec.

As only 7 players, singles were the obvious choice, no geezer cards as we had no geezer cards and as all 7 MOHGS are good Christian lads therefore swears redundant.

Competition Results :

One two recorded today by Matador at the 17th and he collected £1.40

Duffers of the day were Scuttler & 2 Beers with 20 points – 2 shot uplift.

DDOTD was Crocs with 29 points – 1 shot uplift

Runner Up was Matador with 34 points, collecting £2- and 1 shot reduction

Winner was Kwok with a magnificent 40 points, collecting £5- and 2 shot reduction.

The levy raised £3.50

Toasts : No serious ones put forward

Last week’s minutes were accepted.

No matters arising

AOB : Emperor advised that the Laird had sorted the Hobson’s match for Monday 3 July, as The Laird is having a break in Tenerife, could all MOHGS advise The Emperor of their availability and at today’s meeting we have confirmed as Crocs, Monty, Matador & Emperor.

Also, the Emperor advised he requires names by Wed 24th for next Monday 29th May, so tee times can be adjusted to suit. The Emperor also spoke with Julia regarding the MOHGS reserved tee times that have become “active” of late and she came back and advised that herself and Margaret have found the problem and all should be OK from now (I/we will find out tonight as Newcastle FC kick off at St James), as at today’s meeting we have confirmed for 29th May as Crocs, Monty, 2 Beers & Emperor

Scuttler advised he will not be available for MOHGS until 10 July

Matador is off on his hols tomorrow for 4 weeks and will not be back until 26th June

Geezer advised that he will not be available for 29th May

Kwok not available for 29th May & Hobsons match on 3rd July

2 Beers not available for Hobsons match on 3rd July

The meeting closed at 1.06 – could have been earlier but Matador was explaining a life-or-death situation to Kwok that delayed the start of the meeting for all of 10 mins. 2 Beers was too busy preparing his scone that he just let Matador ramble on and on and on.
